Welcome to Miss Kedra
Hello! My name is Christine Kedra. I am currently doing my student teaching internship here at
Riverdale. I have travelled a long way to get here, all the way from the East Coast of the United
States. Back in the U.S.A., I go to a University called Salisbury University, which is in the state of
Maryland. My university is about 2 hours away from our country’s capital, Washington DC. I am
so happy to be here, and learn how schools are run here in New Zealand! So far, I have been
really enjoying my time in the classroom, and being involved with such a great school. Feel free
to say hello, or ask me anything =) Thanks!
From,
Christine

MONSTERMARKS
Hi kids,
We're making monstermarks for art today :-)
Some of the Year 5's in Poutama already know how to do this. So they can lead workshops on how to make them.
Look at the photo, think carefully about what you need to do.
If you get stuck, ask questions.
STEP 1: collect 2 or 3 different colours
STEP 2: follow the instructions in the pictures below
STEP 3: after you have glued the pieces together then see a teacher and get 1or 2 eyes.
***
We will be showing Piako 1 how to make these next week for buddy class.
#excited #collaboration

Cycle Safety
This week the Year 5's of Poutama have been lucky enough to be learning about cycle safety with A.J. and Phil, from the New Zealand Police and Sport Manawatu. They have been helping us grow in our learning and we are starting to know some more basics with our braking, turning, safety checks and hazards!

To Parents
We have had a great start to the year and can't wait to get underway with our teaching and learning programme.
At Riverdale and in Poutama we don't give homework for the sake of it. We believe in filling the gaps when necessary and children having some choice in their learning. Once our programme is up and running fully and children begin their self-directed learning (S.D.L) there will be resources and opportunity for children to take their learning home and push themselves further in their learning journey.
On our blog "Parent page" there is some relevant information that might help you with some of the learning your child might be doing at home.
Poutama Parents Page
We always encourage reading at home and will be visiting the Awapuni Library later in the term. In Poutama we are big believers in students reading for pleasure and enjoyment. So if you are looking for some home learning for your child letting them choose a book or magazine they enjoy is a great place to start!
