DO IT:

Good reasons to do it- it'll make you know more people, so that you can better friends, make fewer enemies

Bad reasons to do it- you can't trust people, people might think you're fake, they think you're actually doing / saying the opposite, start bullying you and they get sick of you

NOT DO IT:
Good reasons to not do it- you don't waste money, you keep your money for yourself, you won't waste time, it won't be awkward

Bad reasons to not do it- 
Make enemies, start having fights, they will not RECIPROCATE
